Career Transition Program (CTP) –Background

Retrenchment is a tough time for all concerned and the process needs to be handled in a sensitive manner. This is where Galaxy Personnel’s professionally managed Outplacement & Career Transition Program can be of immense assistance to both employers & employees no matter the size of the organisation.

Our methodology includes a mix of group activities, individual interviews and on-going job search support tailored to your specific needs.
The Galaxy Personnel CTP is conducted in comfortable surroundings, and the program is managed by our professional consultants who are experienced in assisting people with the transition to their new position or career.
Commencement in a program can include support to the employer on the day of retrenchment including the advice of retrenchment to the employee or employees and handling reactions, dealing with issues and an overview of the CTP. The program involves counselling that will assist the employee/s to come to terms with the trauma associated with retrenchment. We are able to offer skills assessment and evaluation, personality profiling, which is designed for the employee/s to understand their strengths with relation to making career choices. Access to career advice can also be provided by our specialist recruitment consultants. Training in job search together with interview techniques and presentation skills can also be included. Guidance to resume and cover letter preparation together with ongoing support is also on offer. Access to an office with computers, internet, printing, copying and email can also be made available. Assistance with registration with a top ranking job network organisation and an employer network is also available if required by participants in our CTP.
Initial Interview
We recognise that the participants of the CTP will have differing needs and expectations. To assist us to help retrenched employees, this first stage of the program will identify specific requirements and involve the development of an agreed individual plan.
Group Workshop
An integral part of the CTP is a 4 day workshop aimed at preparing candidates for the transition to a new job or a new career. The workshop will cover:
- Works for you - identifying job options, skills and educational or training requirements, career path and potential barriers (Option I).
- Career focus program - qualifying desired career directions, job opportunities, skills options and practical requirements
(Option 2).
- Interview skills - preparing for the interview process, candidate expectations, employers expectations and presenting and ‘selling’ yourself. (Option 3).
- Job focus - Preparing and presenting a resume and responding to selection criteria (Option 4).
- Evaluating job offers – considering and negotiating potential job offers. How to negotiate your salary and package (Option 5).
Follow-up Interview
At the completion of the Group Workshop, we will again meet with candidates individually to:
- Review their revised resume, and assess progress.
Ongoing Support(Option 6)
You will receive ongoing daily support from our Consultants to assist you in your search for a new career. This will include:
- 'Practice' interviews - giving you the chance to develop a pre interview check list, prepare for an interview and think about the questions you could ask an employer.
- Assistance with writing job applications
- Job search activities and time management coaching
- Identifying the right job seeking resources (i.e. web sites, jobs boards, networks etc)
- Ongoing monitoring of individual goal setting and plans
- Monthly review interviews
Resources
Office facilities are available to assist candidates with their search for a new job or career.
These include:
- Workstation
- Computer and internet access
- Printing facilities
- Telephone access
- Tea and coffee making facilities
- Daily newspapers
